When it comes to celebrating birthdays, the country’s crème de la crème is pulling out all stops and throwing parties that can rival even Hollywood celebs’. From treating guests to a luxury cruise to going on exotic Himalayan getaways, they do it all!
The ‘OCD’ Theme:A black-themed birthday party had caviar, exotic dishes like squid ink paella, black bean soup and even rice served black! To obsess about colour when it comes to food might sound weird, but trust our socialites to go the distance.

You may suspect they have OCD.
The cabaret spectacle:Recently, a socialite got two Russian girls dancing in a life-size martini glass for her 35th birthday bash, reportedly splurging more than `10 lakh. She says, “I had been to London, where I went for a couple of cabaret nights. I saw girls dancing in huge martini glasses and was awestruck. We had to get the life-size glasses from Goa, though. My friends talk about my party even today.”
The soultox theme: It is a picnic with a difference. To bring in the big day, socialites are taking their friends and family on a detox/soultox tour. A film personality recently took his friends on a Himalayan trek as birthday treat. The members of the party gave up smoking, alcohol and other vices. Kulu and Ladakh regions are also popular among birthday party trekkers.
Beach and cruise parties: Ringing in birthdays at exotic beach destinations is a big favourite. Recently, PadmaRajgopal went on a girls-only Maldives trip for her 50th birthday party. “After having a party in the city, three of my close friends and I flew to Maldives for a week-long vacation. In fact, we have decided to do the same for all of us, but only when we turn 50,” says Padma. Others who can’t quite make the trip aren’t averse to bringing their personal beach to the city. A socialite recently brought in sand, spread it around the pool and coloured it white, coral, peach and red!
